　　集成电路（Integrated Cireuit，简称IC）是在半导体（或绝缘体）衬底上做成的完整的电子线路，它是50年代末期随着硅晶体管的平面工艺的发展而出现的一种新型电子器件，集成电路以其信息含量大、发展快、渗透力强而成为本世纪最重要和最有影响力的产品和技术，并成为国民经济中具有战略重要性的基础工业。集成电路的产生和发展对电子工业和其它工业产生了巨大的促进作用，尤其是对计算机的发展产生了革命性的影响。而计算机科学技术的发展又促进了IC的迅速发展。

　　计算机辅助设计（Computer Aided Design，简称CAD）是以计算机为主要工具的设计方法是计算机的-个很重要的应用领域。它是在计算技术模拟理论和应用数学等基础上发展起来的- -门新的而又发展极为迅速的学科，目前已广泛应用于各个领域。电子线路的CAD则是CAD技术中发展较早和较成熟的一个方面。由于集成电路的发展极为迅速，因此集成电路计算机辅助设计（简称ICCAD）又是一门新兴的学科，尤其是大规模和超大规模集成电路的计算机辅助设计，目前仍是许多专家、学者努力探索的领域，新的设计理论。新的实用的设计系统层出不穷。
